Rabozaal

The Rabozaal has excellent theater techniques and is therefore used for plays with wind, rain and ice. The character of the room can vary from a sleek black box to a richly decorated industrial space with daylight. Thanks to adjustable walls, a few rows of removable seats and extra folding seats on the stage, the room can be used for conferences, TV broadcasts, product presentations, fashion shows and more.

History

The Rabozaal was a joint project of the formerly Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, Toneelgroep Amsterdam and Melkweg. After a major renovation, this new, second room was opened in 2009. A state-of-the-art theater for the technically advanced presentations of the ITA-ensemble, for which the hall was 'tailor-made'.

The Rabozaal was ingeniously fitted in between the theater and the adjacent Melkweg pop venue. There are 550 fixed seats and with extra seats this can be expanded to 800 seats, but the capacity can be considerably increased by removing the seats and creating standing places, which happens, among other things, at concerts.
