Film director Gus Van Sant, whom we know from Milk, Good Will Hunting, Elephant and My Own Private Idaho, undertakes his first theatre production. It is a musical stage performance inspired by Andy Warhol and his unrivalled talent to turn images into icons and becoming world-famous as a person and as an artist.
Van Sant recreates the beginning of Warhol’s career with a fictional story, constructed from facts and memories as well as from imagination. Actress Edie Sedgwick, who died an untimely death, writer Truman Capote and musician Lou Reed are just some of the characters in this story. Teens and young actors portray these famous personalities. By taking on a different age, they experiment with identity, against the backdrop of the birth of Pop Art.
With his sensitivity, solidarity and charisma, Gus Van Sant fuels our belief in forming a collective or movement strong enough to change the world.
