SORRY WE ONLY HAVE AN HOUR
The newspaper headline: The Netherlands is set to formally apologise for 250 years of slavery in 2023. It is not the first time in recent history that our government has made apologies. It got us thinking: What is the true meaning and function of an apology? When is an apology sincere? How often do we say 'sorry' ourselves? And are official expressions of regret effective means of healing wounds from the past? In this episode of City Talks we are going to explore the concept of saying sorry.
The programme includes Katy Streek (theatre maker, programmer and co-initiator of Sites of Memory), Eneida Delgado Silva-Fransman (psychologist and owner of SANE Psychologen) and Bodil de la Parra (playwright, theatre maker, actor). With performances by Mirte Hartland (singer-song poet) and Jomecia Oosterwolde (performer, choreographer). Moderated by Geoffrey van der Ven.
