After the success of Woiski vs. Woiski, Orkater and the Bijlmer Parktheater are now making De Gliphoeve, part two of a musical trilogy about the reception of Surinamese in the Netherlands. A forgotten history of hidden racism and the painstaking process of integration. A Surinamese family ends up in De Gliphoeve, the first flat in the Bijlmermeer to be inhabited by Surinamese. Despite the concrete, it is warm, swinging and exciting. An entirely new lifestyle is developing with its own clothing, its own music and even its own flat band. But paradise does not last long and the small family is severely put to the test. The Gliphoeve shows the vitality of the immigrant and does its best to break through the concrete with raw, energetic music.

It is 1975. Independence has been declared in Suriname. Etta decides to move to the Netherlands with her children. Full of energy and humour, and with high expectations, this strong mother tries to give them a place in their new homeland. But nobody is waiting for them, there is no work and no housing. Then they end up in De Gliphoeve, the first flat in the Bijlmermeer inhabited by Surinamese. Despite the concrete, it is warm, swinging and exciting. An entirely new lifestyle is developing with its own clothing, its own music and even its own flat band. But paradise does not last long and the small family is severely put to the test.

A Surinamese family ends up in the Bijlmer. Although the togetherness is great, it is not a paradise. A forgotten history of hidden racism; a family drama. De Gliphoeve is the second part of a musical trilogy about Surinamese in the Netherlands. The first volume from the same makers, 'Woiski vs. Woiski', was extremely well received: “Despite the dramatic story, the performance is a big party because of the wonderful music.” - Trouw

'A beautiful complete performance.' -
