Gala van de Wetenschap
For the eighth time, New Scientist is organising the Gala of Science in Internationaal Theater Amsterdam. This year's theme is artificial intelligence and big data and Rianne Letschert, rector magnificus at Maastricht University is curator of the evening. Letschert: 'That AI will fundamentally and permanently influence our future is beyond dispute. Let's therefore, above all, ensure that the digital divide does not deepen'. For the first time, the entire programme will be broadcast via a live stream.
Viewable only via livestream
With unusual lectures, the very best scientists will give an update on their field of expertise. Professor of Political Science Jean Tillie will take the stage with Orkater actor Erik van der Horst and give the musical lecture Robots Cannot Get Drunk. Professor of Theoretical Physics Robbert Dijkgraaf will come over from Princeton and award, among other things, the essay prize named after him. Like every year, the gala will be hosted by Jim Jansen, editor-in-chief of New Scientist. The full programme of the gala is available on galavandewetenschap.nl.
