Ruins by Fubunation
With Ruins, Fubunation, two boys from North London, start a dialogue around the myth of masculinity as experienced in the Pan-African Diaspora. Expect vulnerability, conflict and interdependence, because: the duo's higher goal is to offer the black male figure a visible and honest place in its full complexity through movement and visual art. They do this, among other things, by openly and authentically sharing their own experiences as black men in dance. And that did not go unnoticed! Fubunation received the Conny Janssen Danst Award in 2019 and the London Borough Of Culture Fund Award in 2020.
Queen Blood by Ousmane Sy / Paradox-Sal
In Queen Blood, house dancer and choreographer Ousmane Sy (Babson) – who sadly passed away last December – has created a piece full of female power, performed by the young dancers of Paradox-sal – a preview was presented at Summer Dance Forever 2018 & 2019.
Following on from Fighting Spirit, he continues his exploration of energy and female gestures. Paradox-sal puts the dancers’ technical virtuosity on stage using dance and movement to reveal – or enquire into – what exactly it means to be ‘a woman’. In Queen Blood, Ousmane Sy combines the dancers’ personal stories to forge an intimate performance charged with energy, refuelled every day by new experiences.
