Melancholia
Melancholia starts with a party, where you, the audience, are guests. Justine is marrying her dream man at her sister's (Claire) beautiful country house. But on the night of her perfect wedding she quietly falls apart. Claire solely takes care of her sister, but cannot prevent the lavish party from quickly turning into an inevitable fiasco.

As Justine struggles with her depression, she is drawn to a seemingly innocent star in the sky. It turns out to be the mysterious planet Melancholia, which is on a collision course with Earth. Confronted with its impending doom, the relationship between the two sisters changes. Justine blossoms, while Claire becomes increasingly panicked. How do you deal with the feeling of helplessness? How do you live when you know the end is coming? Melancholia is a dystopian and existential performance full of music, strong characters and theatrical imagination.
Eline Arbo about Melancholia
‘Melancholia is a beautiful story about the lies we tell ourselves: that our systems work, that we need perfect marriages and that the earth is not dying. Lars von Trier brilliantly manages to combine a personal and intimate human portrait with the biggest and most important theme of today: the end of the world.’
