Tula Herdenkingsconcert
The Tula Herdenkingsconcert 2023 will pay tribute to the Curaçao resistance fighter Tula, who in 1795 led the largest uprising of enslaved people in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and thereby contributed unmistakably to the emancipation drive of enslaved people on Curaçao and the surrounding islands.

The concert is curated by the master of percussion and composition, Vernon Chatlein, who presents a colourful palette of styles under the title E Forsa T'ei (The Force Is There). Chatlein calls it an ode to Ancestor Joceline Clemencia and the power of women.
Chatlein is accompanied by the legendary Elia Isenia and the unprecedented singer-songwriter Izaline Calister. Isenia is known for her powerful voice and historical songs deeply rooted in the beautiful island of Curaçao.

The Edison-winning versatile singer-songwriter Izaline Calister combines traditional music of Curaçao with diverse musical movements. Chatlein brings his own band, Chatlein i su Zumbi, consisting of outstanding musicians with whom he transforms the mysterious Muzik di Zumbi into a contemporary expression of Afro-Curaçaoan jazz and improvised music. This will be an enchanting experience with a unique collection of icons of Afro-Curaçaoan musical heritage.
