Venue
We look forward to welcoming you in one of our theater halls, foyers, or at The Bookshop.
Floor plans
The Stadsschouwburg has several halls with different layouts. The Grote Zaal features an average of five tiers and comfort seats, the Rabozaal has three tiers, and the Studio has a single grandstand without tiers. In our cultural living room, The Bookshop, we use a flexible seating arrangement with one tier.
Seating arrangements and prices vary per performance.
Wardrobe & bag policy
For safety reasons, large bags or backpacks are not allowed in the halls.
Handbags may be a maximum of 10 cm thick to be permitted. Other belongings can be stored in the lockers or at the supervised cloakroom.

History of the house
Step into the rich history of Het Huis van het Nederlandse Theater. The current theatre on Leidseplein dates back to 1894, but its roots go all the way back to 1638. Twice destroyed by fire. Twice rebuilt. After a major renovation and the opening of the new state-of-the-art Rabozaal in 2009, Internationaal Theater Amsterdam has become a cultural hub with two large halls, historic foyers, and hundreds of stories. In 2024, we opened The Bookshop, ITA’s cultural living room at Leidseplein—a place for experimentation, reflection, context, and a fresh perspective.
