Sarah Benson
Sarah Benson is a two-time Obie award-winning theater director known for her work across theater and performance. Her direction has been recognized for its architectural use of space and potent engagement with spectatorship. She frequently partners with writers, visual artists, choreographers, designers, and composers to realize interdisciplinary forms. Benson has developed and premiered works at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Walker Art Center, The Park Avenue Armory, The Atlantic and Playwrights Horizons. She was a Director at Soho Rep from 2008-2023. Collaborators include: Mimi Lien, Raja Feather Kelly, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Jackie Sibblies Drury, César Alvarez, Richard Maxwell, Michael R. Jackson, Anna K. Jacobs, Stacey Derosier and Jane Cox. Benson also directed the genre-defying Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical, which won the Grand Prix at Cannes Lions. She is a Vilcek Prize awardee. Upcoming: Tartuffe, adapted by Lucas Hnath at NYTW. Originally from the UK, Benson now lives and works in New York City.
