"Common Ground is a mature work by a choreographer at the top of her game." ★★★★★ The Age
-|- "Common Ground is a refreshingly direct duet. An imposing bare-bones performance without embellishments, props and technology, where the power and beauty of the dancers can be seen in all its glory." Dance Australia
“Because of my fascination with the rivalries between political leaders at the national and international stage, and how they each praise their own reign, I decided to explore the dynamics of political power. This brought me back to the seventeenth century and the birthplace of ballet. At the court of Louis XIV, for the first time in history, dance was performed as a spectacle to strengthen the absolute monarchy. King Louis himself danced the leading role.
-|-At that time when equality was on the political agenda more than ever, I imagined what would have happened if Louis XIV had performed with an equally strong woman in the leading role. How would it have shaped our ideas on power and gender? How would it have affected the course of history, and the way in which we wage war with each other, assign value in our society, and shape our humanity through art?” – Anouk van Dijk.

Interview Anouk van Dijk
"I look for the vulnerable and human side in dancers, making them more tangible and recognizable: you understand it, even though you may never have seen or experienced it before."
