De Late Late Tante Beb Show
In this sideshow to the performance Brown Sugar Baby, Eric de Vroedt pays tribute to his colourful great-aunt. In the early 1930s, she left for the Dutch East Indies at a young age and wrote for newspapers and weekly magazines and in her novels unflinchingly about the final days of Dutch rule, the turbulent decolonisation and about the birth shocks of the new Indonesia. However, her razor-sharp perspective was not appreciated by everyone.
In De Late Late Tante Beb Show, journalist Ischa Meijer (Betty Schuurman) talks to Beb Vuyk (Esther Scheldwacht) one last time. Has the Netherlands indeed never understood anything about Indonesia? Prominent guest speakers shine their light on the colony. Young writers read their favourite fragments of Indonesian literature. There is jazz by Brown's Sugar Babies. And there are innovative snacks from Indonesian chefs.
De Late Late Tante Beb Show is a dazzling evening full of compelling stories, hidden blots and a grande dame of Dutch-Indonesian literature.
Please note: De Late Late Tante Beb Show is a separate programme and you do not need to have seen the show Brown Sugar Baby to understand it. Of course, it is fun if you attend both programmes.
