EUTERPIANS
In EUTERPIANS by LeineRoebana, Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana take the joyful creativity of Euterpe, the irresistibility of the Sirens and the martial nature of the Amazons as their starting point. Together with dancers and musicians, they make the feminine power and energy tangible.

EUTERPIANS
Self-confident, with passion, doubt, lightness and irony, women take charge. Every moment on stage is an invitation to feel, reflect and experience the beauty that arises when the poetry of the (female) soul reveals itself in the language of the body.
EUTERPIANS is situated on the border between a dance performance and a concert. In their quest to intertwine dance, text and music into an indivisible integral whole, Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana create with old and contemporary sounds from, among others, the 12th century Comtessa del Dia, Hildegard von Bingen and Barbara Strozzi to Billy Holiday, Kate Moore and Sofia Gubaidulina. Solo singing, percussion, harmonic composition, everyday movements, words and gestures together form a layered choreography of sound and image. In addition to the martial sensuality of the dancers, the sound and spatiality of music, and the movement and body of the musicians are also part of the choreography.

Cellist Maya Fridman is praised for her passionate playing, unconditional theatrical commitment and talent for interdisciplinary work. Percussionist Marianna Soroka is a multi-instrumentalist who, with psalterion and vibraphone, is equally at home in old and contemporary music. Singer Elisabeth Hetherington, with whom LeineRoebana has worked for a long time, will receive the Dutch Music Prize from the Performing Arts Fund in 2024. Andrea Leine, Harijono Roebana and Hetherington find each other in their love for Old and New music, which combines the crystal-clear soprano with a great passion for dance. All this feminine power is connected by the soft and hard harmonies of guitar experimentalist Wiek Hijmans, with whom the choreographers have also worked extensively. Tatiana Rosa creates electronic soundscapes for this project to complement the extraordinary compositions of various composers. Partly due to the texts of writer Erik Bindervoet, who previously worked on SOLAS and CABARET DECONSTRUIT , a formal game is created that increasingly evokes images and associations about the nature of being a woman.
