For decades, Lolita has been portrayed as a romanticised object of lust, spawning countless reinterpretations of her story. Now, seventy years on, Silke radically turns Nabokov’s literary classic inside out. In FCK LOLITA*, she reshapes the narrative from a female perspective.
Lolita breaks free from the cage of sexual objectification and reclaims her body and her story. Not as a victim of abuse, but as someone who fights to escape the grip of the male gaze.
With text by Annet Bremen (nominated for the Dutch Playwriting Prize 2023), FCK LOLITA* becomes an erratic, intelligent, and layered duet between Lolita and Humbert Humbert. Lolita reclaims her own artwork: about herself, as herself.
