Hiphop is erfgoed
Hiphop is erfgoed takes you on a two-night journey into the world of hip hop - not just as a music style, but as a rich cultural heritage and powerful social movement. Four panel discussions highlight different facets of the culture: archiving, the role of the DJ and activism. Each evening will end with a special performance by our guests.
This series was created in collaboration with Foundation Amsterdam Hiphop Centre, ITA, Re/presenting Europe and Culture Capsule.

The importance of archiving
Many of us have things lying around at home that tell the story of the Dutch hip-hop scene: audio and video recordings, flyers, photos and merchandise. Culture Capsule collects all these stories, supports people in building their own archives and makes knowledge, stories and information digitally accessible to anyone who wants to know more about the rich history of hip-hop in the Netherlands.
Through a network of hip-hop hubs, urban living rooms, researchers and makers, together we build a common memory - a memory made by and for hip-hop culture. This way, we keep control of our heritage and ensure that the most important moments are preserved and passed on to the next generation.

Contribute to the archiving of hip-hop culture!
Suppose you were allowed to archive one item, one moment, or one story from your own history in Dutch hip-hop. What would that be? Do you think of a flyer from a local party that meant a lot to you? Or a turntable you used to master your skills for the first time? That one record or that old VHS tape you still have lying around somewhere?
Bring that item or story to the discussion. During the panel discussion, we will discuss this: which item did you bring? What does it mean to you? And what place does it have for you in Dutch hip-hop history?
If you like, you can have your object digitised by Sherlock Telgt (the head of the archive) afterwards. When registering, please indicate whether you are open to this; then Sherlock can explain everything about the archive and the current participants.
