Theater Utrecht / DOX / Casper Vandeputte

Together with director Casper Vandeputte, choreographers Melvin Fraenk and Cagdas Gülum and musician Tom van Wee, the performers investigate how their story relates to the life stories of the people around them. The audience are encouraged to (re-)face their own life story, as well. So that we don't forget that we are our history.

Quake

Quake is a production by director Casper Vandeputte at Theater Utrecht, in collaboration with DOX. Just as an earthquake thousands of miles away can set off a tidal wave here, so we ourselves are products of our history. -|-Quake was created by eight passionately honest performers who had their personal quakes in different places and times. These dancing, monologuing, singing talents tell their story full of self-awareness.

Casper Vandeputte on Quake

“There seems to be a social trend in which more and more people are delving into where they come from, whether that is by figuring out their family tree, doing a DNA test or by diving back into our national history. We want to know what we are made of and what has shaped us. This knowledge is enriching but also raises questions. Are we nothing more than particles that transmit the quakes? Or can we break the shock waves of the past? Can we break free from what happened to us?”

REVIEWS

NRC

“The stirring combination of razor-sharp lyrics and energetic dance lifts the performance to great heights.”

NRC

“The great thing about Quake is that it focuses on major historical processes, without ever losing sight of the personal impact. By looking the past straight in the eye, Quake convincingly makes room for the possibility of a new beginning.”
