Workshop: Via Katlehong
Step into the ITA studio and let yourself be swept away by the infectious energy of Via Katlehong Dance! Two dancers from this South African company will give a workshop in which you will be immersed in the world of Pantsula and Gumboot, rhythmic, explosive dance styles full of power, precision and zest for life.
The workshop is open to all levels (aged 16 and above) and is a great way to prepare for the tamUjUntU performance on 7 December.
Via Katlehong Dance
Via Katlehong Dance is one of South Africa's leading dance companies and brings Pantsula culture to life in all their performances. This dynamic dance style originated in the townships of South Africa in the 1960s and 1970s, where young people under the apartheid regime found their own form of expression in music, fashion, language and dance, creating a culture of resistance and creativity.
Their performances are an explosion of rhythm, energy and street culture: Pantsula, with its lightning-fast footwork and percussion sounds from iron shoes, blends with the Gumboot dance of miners in rubber boots.
