ITA welcomes Timothy de Gilde as new Head of Programming, Education & Engagement
Internationaal Theater Amsterdam is delighted to announce the appointment of Timothy de Gilde as the new Head of Programming, Education & Engagement. Timothy previously served as Artistic Director at DOX in Utrecht and was affiliated with De Toneelmakerij as a director and artistic team member. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Theater Oostpool, where he worked as a director and led the company’s youth and education department. Timothy will begin his new role on 1 September, bringing ITA’s producing and programming ambitions even closer together.
Timothy: ‘After years of focusing primarily on my work as a maker, I feel the need to take a broader perspective—not just on what I create myself, but on the transformative power of theatre as a whole. At ITA, I see the opportunity to truly connect artistic vision, programming, education and audience engagement. I look forward to doing that alongside the incredible team already in place. I’m excited to contribute to one of the most pioneering theatres in the world, building a programme that fully responds to the times we live in—a programme that makes ITA the place to be, where people feel seen, and where everyone feels welcome.’
Clayde Menso, director of ITA, is pleased to announce Timothy’s arrival: ‘Over the past few months, we’ve taken the time to find a department head who fits the ITA of tomorrow. Someone with a sharp, distinct vision on programming, education and engagement—and equally important, a leadership style that suits our organisation: people-oriented, inspiring and collaborative. In recent weeks, Timothy has introduced us in his own unique way to his perspective on the opportunities within the national and international landscape. We’re proud that he’s chosen to join ITA and to take this exciting next step in his career with us.’
Eline Arbo: ‘I’m greatly looking forward to working with Timothy. His experience in education and engagement, as well as his background as a maker, make him the ideal person to bridge ITA’s producing and programming sides. Our in-house productions, programming, contextual programming, festivals, studio work, collaborations in the city and abroad—I look forward to the connections and depth Timothy will bring to all of it!’
