An evening with William Forsythe
Internationaal Theater Amsterdam

In our series An evening with..., we talk to an artist about his or her work. This evening, that is William Forsythe, still one of our most pioneering dance makers. Alistair Spalding, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Sadler's Wells, will talk to Forsythe about his work, his inspirations and about dance in general. Forsythe shaped contemporary dance in a unique way. His works have kept the practice of ballet from being solely identified with the classical realm, transforming it into a dynamic art form of the twenty-first century.

"If dance only does what we assume it can do, it will expire." - William Forsythe

William Forsythe is a radical innovator in choreography and dance. For more than four decades, he has redefined the syntax and praxis of his field, exerting unparalleled influence on subsequent generations of artists. Over the course of his career, he has developed an extensive repertoire of groundbreaking ballet choreographies and experimental, non-proscenium-based dance-theater works, as well as an open-access digital platform for dance analysis, notation, and improvisation. His works are featured in the repertoire of many of the world’s major ballet companies, including Paris Opera Ballet; Mariinsky Ballet, Saint Petersburg; Semperoper Ballet, Dresden, Germany; Royal Ballet, London; New York City Ballet; San Francisco Ballet; Boston Ballet; and the National Ballet of Canada.

Tonight we will talk to him about his work, his accomplishments, his dreams and ambitions.
