After After
In his latest work, After After, choreographer Arno Schuitemaker explores a question posed by the young Italian philosopher Federico Campagna: “How can we help the creation of new worlds out of the ruins of our own?” With a team of seven dancers, Schuitemaker begins with a blank canvas, setting the stage for an exhilarating and mesmerizing journey into the unknown.

After After
Playing in the background is the idea Campagna describes in his work: how each of the civilisations we have known so far – the Egyptian, the Greek, the Roman and so on – reached a climax each time, only to disintegrate. In Campagna's view, the world has arrived at the end point of neoliberal or capitalist society: there is no way out. In After After, Arno Schuitemaker does not focus on showing the ruins, but undertakes a search for how we can create new worlds.
In After After, he advocates for an attempt: “Continuing to strive is crucial for our existence. How might these new worlds emerge? What could we sketch on a blank canvas?” His dancers compose a diverse cast, bursting with energy and dynamism, where each individual's strength takes center stage. The stage is their playground, their bodies the instruments, their versatility the key. A radically transformative set design shapes the surprising staging.
