About the performance
De Keersmaeker is recognised the world over as one of the most influential contemporary choreographers, and Drumming as one of her most iconic choreographies. When the music stops and the bodies come to a halt, the audience realises what they have witnessed: a wave of pure dance and pure sound, a vortex of vital energy. Costumes are designed by Dries van Noten, set and lighting by Jan Versweyveld.
Steve Reich's music and De Keersmaeker's dance start with a single rhythmic motif, which subsequently multiplies and unfolds into a world of infinite variations. The intense relationship between dance and music is the common denominator in De Keersmaeker’s extensive oeuvre. -|-De Volkskrant described her as ‘the choreographer who, like no other, knows how to bring emotion into the golden triangle of dance-form-music’.
De Keersmaeker: “Emotions have always guided what I do, but on the other side, there has always been this kind of longing for abstract beauty, for inexorable, self-contained order.” Drumming is a highlight in the oeuvre of De Keersmaeker and her prominent company Rosas.
