Icons of Literature - James Baldwin
During this edition, we dive deep into Baldwin’s world. Visitors are guided through his books, interviews, documentaries, and archival material that place his life and work in context. This rich foundation becomes the starting point for a series of interactive, playful, and connecting sessions in which we explore together why Baldwin continues to resonate today.
Expect an afternoon filled with conversations, games, a quiz, film excerpts, and creative dialogues. These formats are designed to actively engage with themes such as identity, justice, community, and personal responsibility. Together, we will look at how Baldwin’s insights relate to current issues and how we can apply them within our own lives and communities.
Icons in Literature connects to Eline Arbo’s 2024 stage adaptation of Baldwin’s novel Giovanni’s Room at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, powerfully bringing literature, theater, and community together.
