Radical Space: Devi Scented Encounter
The performance Devī Scented Encounter is an intimate encounter in which two dancers move in interaction with the audience and in which the space is filled with a specially developed scent.
This research runs parallel to the tour of the performance Devī by choreographer Poernima Gobardhan. It explores the balance between the forces of Deva and Devī. These two forces are often mistakenly seen as binary opposites, as masculine and feminine, as reason versus emotion, but that is not entirely accurate.

Devī Scented Encounter
Through movement, interaction and scent exclusively composed by Jivika Biervliet, binary oppositions are called into question. Together, Poernima and Jivika explore what happens when you can be everything at once: surrender and strength, earthly and ethereal, structure and chaos. The dancers are trained in the Bharata Natyam dance style and engage in dialogue with each other, the audience and the space.
Radical Space in The Bookshop
With the arrival of The Bookshop, ITA introduces Radical Space: an initiative that reclaims theatre as a place for solidarity, empathy and artistic innovation. In this space on Leidseplein, we will give a stage to diverse voices and perspectives, exploring the complex legacy of (our) theatre and its social impact.
Following successful programmes such as Keti Koti and City Talks, Radical Space focuses on pressing social issues such as colonialism, class inequality, sexism and transphobia. Here, together with artists, makers and thinkers, we develop interdisciplinary projects that provide space for critical artistic commentary.
