As in all his plays, Chekhov portrays in Ivanov the decline of the well-to-do bourgeoisie. Deeply tragic and moving, yet at the same time highly comic. A gripping story of unfulfilled longing for love.

As always, Studio Antigone places language at the heart of the production, while music will once again play a vital role. The performance will connect Chekhov’s portrayal of a lethargic bourgeoisie in decline with our own society — in which the so-called middle class is only stirred to action when its material lifestyle is under threat.
