In Peper & Zuur?!, comedian Howard Komproe and chef Noni Kooiman tell the story of Surinamese history through its cuisine. The performance is a flavorful mix of a cooking show, comedy, and personal stories, complemented by an educational segment on the history of Surinamese cuisine. How has this history shaped the country, its people, and its food? And where do dishes like roti, bara, bakkeljauw, and moksi meti come from?

The food industry has discovered that there is big money to be made and labels everything Surinamese. Komproe and Kooiman think it's time to put a stop to this, but also embrace the fresh wind that the young generation is letting blow through the rather conservative Surinamese cooking culture.
About Howard & Noni
Howard Komproe is a stand-up comedian and voice actor. During the corona pandemic, Howard turned to cooking and started the platform Komproeven. Noni Kooiman worked as a cook in several restaurants from the age of seventeen. She also wrote cookbooks and made the culinary travel series Paramaribo peppers for VPRO.
