Naar zachtheid en een warm omhelzen
In this theatre lecture Adriaan van Dis seeks to connect Naar zachtheid en een warm omhelzen with De kolonie mept terug. These two books offer different perspectives on the past: one presented as a novel and the other as a personal essay. Van Dis candidly and humorously dissects the ideas he was raised with. How do we perceive women's roles and our colonial past nowadays? The world order is currently shifting and what does that have to do with European history?

How do we maintain mental flexibility for the future? These questions are addressed in a playful yet serious manner during the theatre lecture.
No one knows precisely what will be discussed; every theatre lecture is unique. After the event, there will be a meet & greet session with Adriaan van Dis.

His work is autobiographical, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's entirely true to life. As he puts it himself: “Everything is true, except for what I've made up.”
Every other Saturday, a new episode of his podcast, Van Dis Ongefilterd is released.
In the fall of 2023, his latest novel Naar zachtheid en een warm omhelzen was released, quickly becoming another bestseller. Then, in early 2024, his essay De kolonie mept terug, based on Rudy Kousbroek’s lecture, was published.
