Safe Space with Dress and Dance

ITA wants everyone to feel safe. And especially during Pride. Not everyone feels safe travelling to Amsterdam in their ultimate Pride outfit. That is why ITA, in collaboration with Dress and Dance, will open its doors on Saturday 3 August so that visitors to the Canal Parade have a safe place to change clothes.

ITA's Safe Space will be open on Saturday 3 August from 10:00 - 15:00.

Pride Amsterdam

Opening hours
10 am - 3 pm

Less than half of Amsterdam's youngsters say they accept homosexuality. This is according to the GGD's latest Youth Health Monitor. Fewer and fewer young people say they find it normal that men fall for men and women for women. We too hear these noises, alongside all the stories of people from the LGBTQAP+ community being excluded, scolded, laughed at, spat at or beaten up. We hear the reports of drag queens who are regularly refused by taxi drivers. We hear stories of young people who dress differently than they want to in order to get fewer comments.

ITA wants everyone to feel safe. And especially during Pride. Not everyone feels safe travelling to Amsterdam in their ultimate Pride outfit. That is why ITA will open its doors on Saturday 3 August, so that visitors to the Canal Parade have a safe place to change their clothes. This is done in cooperation with Dress & Dance, the organisation that makes sure there is a safe space in the Reguliersdwarsstraat every Saturday night. During the Canal Parade, this will happen once in the theatre on Leidseplein. Drag queen Bok Choi will be present for make-up and styling advice, and hosts and security guards will be on hand to provide the safe environment.
