Benthé: Voilá
After leaving his mark in the battle scene and as a dancer in several Hiphop productions, Théophile Bensusan founded the Benthé company in 2020, creating his first piece entitled Voilà. Now, three years later, amidst vicious wars and severe protests, this piece couldn’t be more topical. Voilà highlights the omnipresent violence in our society and the way it resonates within each of us. What imprints does this leave on us? Using Hiphop as a form of expression, the bodies of the four B-Boys illustrate signs of ‘being overflown’ through explosive, extreme, diffuse, minimalistic or even unexpected reactions. The dancers don’t just focus on the consequences of violence, but also try to find ways to overcome these hard times.
Bots Kingdom: BOTS
With BOTS, French choreographer/dancer Blondy Mota-Kisoka presents a choreographed essay on ‘animation dance’. Bringing together six dancers, BOTS unveils a dance style in which the performers look like virtual 3D images, and use robot-like movements. The point of the animation is to appear unreal. The dancers erase their human identities and transcend their emotions to create a seemingly computer-coded show.
Hendrickx Ntela: Blind
Tonight, Summer Dance Forever hits you with some Belgian Krump! Blind by Belgium-based Hendrickx Ntela denounces the conscious and unconscious blindness of citizens, fed by a system that generates desires beyond our reach. Five dancers – from Belgium, Spain, France and Senegal – face the same story in different places around the world. Each carrying their own experiences, they react in their own ways. Steeped in spirituality, Krump dance acts as an outlet for their emotions; a real means of expressing their deep identities, and cultivating their heritage.
Sundar Varma: Solo
Coming all the way from India, this Hiphop dancer won last year's SDF Theatre Competition with his solo. Short but sweet, Sundar displays both grace and superb technique in this piece.
