Espacio Radical
César Puente is an Amsterdam-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, vocalist, and recording artist. Originally from the desert city of Matehuala in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Puente has devotedly navigated the currents of jazz, blues, and Mexican music. Along the way, he has developed a versatile artistic identity shaped by the many recordings and bands he has collaborated with. Although he actively explores the jazz and blues scenes, Puente’s first musical love has always been Mexican music.
For Radical Space, Puente has created a concert inspired by the history and architecture of our building. Traditionally, the door leading to the Bookshop was one of the entrances through which the working class gained access to the theatre. Via this staircase, they reached the cheapest seats at the top of the auditorium, separated from wealthier theatre-goers who entered through other doors. In Espacio Radical, César Puente reflects on this past by showing how music can serve as a form of coming home — how sound, rhythm, and silence within this architecture can create space for new encounters.
