LFMC presents: Toys Are Us
Toys Are Us tells the different stories of Ma Pansa, Jan Valckenburgh, Tula, and J.P. Coen—four key figures from our colonial history. In this interdisciplinary exhibition, these historical figures are reimagined as superheroes or supervillains. Through action figures in unique packaging and video works, LFMC translates history into a contemporary visual language rich in pop culture and sharp reflection.
Stories of heroes and villains have fascinated us throughout the ages. What do old and new stories teach us about how we understand good and evil today? With Toys Are Us, LFMC brings past and imagination together. -|-

About LFMC
Lowrey Foley McClane (LFMC) is a production house run by a collective of interdisciplinary makers. LFMC works towards an inclusive cultural sector and creative industry by creating its own work and by offering (physical) space, networks, guidance, and platforms to both its own makers and the next generation of creatives.
Through our productions, we care for the collective imagination of our community and advocate for visibility and perspective for makers with bi‑cultural backgrounds. LFMC is a playground where artists can create freely and authentically—a place where process is just as important as the final outcome. For LFMC, art is the ultimate way to express thoughts and feelings, convey critical messages, and share knowledge. As Nina Simone once said: “An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.”
