The video installation Ik Ontmoet Mij is an artistic translation and intimate experience of the training methodology of the same name, based on emotional bodywork. With this training, which has been taking place in the capillaries of Amsterdam's neighbourhoods for over 15 years, women and men with a migrant background increase their mental resilience. They find balance in themselves, navigating between two cultures.

Ik Ontmoet Mij

How does it feel to be truly welcomed into yourself and carried by a collective? The video installation Ik Ontmoet Mij is an intimate experience and artistic translation of the training methodology of the same name. You are invited into the soft world of Ik Ontmoet Mij: a training based on emotional bodywork, which has been taking place for more than 15 years in the capillaries of Amsterdam's neighbourhoods to empower women and men mentally.

Sitting on cushions in a bright, cloth-enclosed space, you will be taken through a variety of emotions and identities. In the film, experienced trainers share with you the healing you experience when everything inside you finds an embrace. Reflect on a story with universal eloquence and feel the benefits of self-acceptance and being touched by your fellow human beings.

Theatre company Female Economy moves through the world, through systems, past communities and individuals to use rituals to give form to that which is felt but not lived. When you have grown up in a culture that focuses on the community, it can sometimes be difficult to develop into a powerful individual. They therefore developed the training Ik Ontmoet Mij and, with the help of pioneering GPs and community centres, more than 1,000 people have already managed to heal themselves. Participants find balance in themselves, navigating between two cultures.

Festival Lieve Stad,

Amsterdam is a city of many faces. Lieve Stad, – a celebration of theatre, art, and dialogue – reflects the dynamics of that metropolitan environment, in which the city itself is a source of inspiration. This festival, a collaboration between ITA and Meervaart, is about bringing people together, in the city, in the theatre, in society. How do we live together and what stories do all individuals and groups carry with them?
