A performance with dance and spoken word made for and by young people (15-20 years). Parra jr. is a laboratory for research into anger, power, justice and empathy. And how human perception relates to reality. Because what we hear and see is determined by who we are.

Because of the current corona measures, we decided to make Parra jr. into a theatre film, something in between a recording of the performance and a film. Using the theatre script as a starting point, we staged the scenes for film shooting. In this way, we try to do justice to the work process and to find creative solutions in these complicated times.

The theatrical film will be shown in 24-hour time slots (from 00:01 - 23:59).

A plea for anger

Don't get so agitated...
Don't get worked up...
Let it go...
I'm sure it's not meant that way...

Frequently used phrases that are mainly intended to calm things down. To keep things in check. But what if you can't or if you choose not to? What if you do let the tempers run high, what if you don't hold back your emotions? If you are simply angry and everyone is allowed to know it. And perhaps that anger can also be a good thing? A force of nature that can move mountains, set tribes in motion, a catalyst for change. Through dance and spoken word, our young actors draw the audience into a battle that manifests itself as a socratic conversation, in which we search for the real meaning of all that we say and do.

And empathising with someone else turns out to be more difficult than you think. How do you establish that everything is not in fact an illusion?

Each year, in our ITA junior production, creators and young people are inspired by an ITA ensemble performance. This year, they take inspiration from Ivo van Hove's Age of Rage. Age of Rage tells a prehistoric story of how revenge haunts and destroys consecutive generations. Using the history of the Trojan War and the royal Atrid family, Age of Rage shows the mechanisms, inevitability and hopelessness of a circle of violence.
