MAL - Embriaguez Divina by Marlene Monteiro Freitas during Brandhaarden Festival

MAL - Embriaguez Divina

“Marlene is unconventional, fierce, disconcerting. MAL – Embriaguez Divina is an experience of embodiment beyond the being. An unforgettable experience.” – Dance art journal

MAL - Embriaguez Divina immerses you in a world of tension and rhythmic chaos. Dancers transform into a chorus that embodies the ambiguity and frustration of evil. With hypnotic movements, rhythmic drums and fierce vocals, Freitas balances between control and surrender. Paper, an everyday object, becomes a powerful symbol of power and vulnerability. This compelling performance offers a confrontational look at power, guilt and human nature.

Guintche - Live version by Marlene Monteiro Freitas during Brandhaarden Festival

Guintche - Live version

“Guintche - live version [...] exults in a variation of incarnations, sensations, and emotions, which is as demanding and disturbing as it is joyful and liberating.” - Wrongwrong.net

Guintche - live version fizzes with energy and transforms the body into a kaleidoscope of characters. Inspired by the Cape Verdean word ‘guintche’ - meaning both bird, prostitute and playful attitude to life - Freitas combines grotesque expressions with physical exhaustion. A boxer, clown or acrobat: something new appears each time. Two uninhibited live drummers enhance the explosive power of this unique solo, a celebration of transformation and unlimited creativity.
