Captain Fantastic
It is an adventurous and free existence in the midst of nature. The Fantastic family lives in the forest, makes music, builds fires, and reads and debates about the world. Without school, screens, or city bustle. But when their mother dies, the family has to go to the big city for the first time. There they discover a world full of rules, customs, and things they have never seen before. Can they find their way in the “real” world? Captain Fantastic is a quirky family show suitable for everyone aged eight and up.

Parenting and growing up outside the box
Director Nina Spijkers, known for classics such as Antigone and Het Achtste Leven (The Eighth Life), has created her first family show Captain Fantastic: "Now that I'm a mother myself, I'm constantly thinking about how to raise a child. The film Captain Fantastic has made me question my motherhood so critically. For example, how should we deal with the influence of screens in our daily lives? But also: how do you talk to children about complicated subjects?"

Based on the award-winning film Captain Fantastic
In this theater version of the well-known film, we follow Ben (father) and his children Bo (17), Rellian (14), Vesper (11), and Zasj (7). They live deep in the forest, where they learn how to survive in nature and how to think critically: which plants are suitable to eat, how to catch a rabbit, and the principles of the constitution and quantum theory. When they hear that their mother has died, they return to the city for her funeral. There they are confronted with a world full of strange customs and unfamiliar things: from smartphones to cola and hot dogs. Their grandmother demands that the children come to live with her. But the family fights to stay together.
