Reigen re-erected
After the success of Mission Molière and Crashtest Ibsen, Het Zuidelijk Toneel presents Reigen re-Erected (also known as Rijgen, the Oerol hit of 2022). Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler's Reigen, in which Schnitzler portrays the sexual morality of the late 19th century in ten scenes. In this version, director Sarah Moeremans and writer Joachim Robbrecht humorously illuminate the mysterious and vulnerable corners of lust and love in our time.

Reigen re-Erected
In a relay of scenes, the actors immerse themselves in a world of intimacy, suffering lovers, and pleasure seekers. From Tinder dates to long-married couples, from webcam girls to asexual individuals, from happy singles to open relationships. Taboos and forbidden forms of love are not shied away from, yet you primarily experience a loving comedy with a deeper meaning.
Het Zuidelijk Toneel creates theatre. Artistic director Sarah Moeremans and a diverse group of theater makers from the Netherlands and Flanders (Belgium) have built an open, engaging and multifaceted theater company. The best creators under one roof. Het Zuidelijk Toneel and its makers are bound by an inherent drive to enter into dialogue with the audience. Challenging, evocative. Our work takes place in the real world, and the real world is part of our art making process. Our central theme: connection to The Other and how we see ourselves within that reflection.

About Sarah Moeremans
Sarah Moeremans is the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel. Since 2021, she has been involved as a resident director and co-artistic leader with the company. Her work is philosophically reflective with a touch of satire, with language as the main building block. Since 2013, she has worked very regularly with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she has created productions such as the textless performance Shut Up and Play with Me, the theater experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete?, and the binge-watch production Crashtest Ibsen.
In 2012, she founded the plug & play collective Moeremans&Sons, which was dissolved in 2017. Previously, she was associated with the Ro Theater, Noord Nederlands Toneel, and Toneelgroep Oostpool.
REVIEWS
de Volkskrant
“Rijgen is a remarkably cheerful, light, and at times even very humorous performance.”
Trouw
“The genuine exploration of emotions by the creators fosters an open atmosphere, dispelling prejudices. This alone rightfully qualifies ‘Rijgen’ as taboo-breaking.”
NRC
“An authentic sanctuary for suppressed emotions and taboos.”
