Love as an act of resistance
For more than sixteen years, Saskia Belleman and Petra Urban have followed court cases together. Belleman as a courtroom journalist, Urban as an illustrator who draws defendants, judges and victims when cameras are not allowed. Where one writes, the other draws.
In this theatre lecture they share their experiences and guide the audience through striking, painful and sometimes bizarre court cases. From major criminal trials to remarkable incidents, supported by illustrations that offer a unique view of what happens inside the courtroom.-|-
Why do court sessions rarely start on time? Is there laughter in the courtroom? Why is it so difficult to access court schedules? And why are victim statements so important? With sharp observations and personal stories, Belleman and Urban provide insight into a world that remains largely hidden.
Together with journalist and presenter Wilson Boldewijn, who worked as a court reporter for many years, they place these cases in a broader context and show how crime and justice affect society.
