The Present
In THE PRESENT, an angel sits at a bar after a long day, questioning humanity. Her colleagues deliver messages or seek revenge. But this angel has been assigned to watch us. She has seen it all: the wars, the diseases, the storms. She knows every wimpy laugh in history. She longs to merge with us, but her attempts are futile. And she’s had enough of our whims. So she has a gift for humans. Something to set both, us and herself free.
I lay on my back, staring upward,
No stars, an orange sky,
A heavy air thick with opiates,
Gasoline, kerosene, burnt leaves,
The ash of thousands of homes, a cigarette,
Sometimes, in moments like these, I can see home,
But today, I can’t.
There’s too much light falling into my eyes from above.

Sarah Sluimer and ‘Ntianu Stuger wanted to create something together. They endend up with a monologue about these turbulent times when we’ve lost our compass, seek advice from robots, and flirt with destruction. During these theatrical readings, you will hear and see this new text for the very first time.
