Unboxing Ballet

The National Ballet created the Junior Company in 2013 to encourage young dance talent. The ensemble is formed by twelve young, gifted dancers. They all have it in themselves to grow into the stars of tomorrow. “All twelve dancers are young, ambitious, eager and enthusiastic,” writes Trouw after their first programme.

The group presents itself again with an attractive new programme, which, like the previous programme, consists of parts from the (neo) classical repertoire and new creations by well-regarded choreographers. To start with, Unboxing ballet includes a classical work: the Paquita Suite, in the critically acclaimed arrangement that Rachel Beaujean produced, focused on the pure dance divertissements that dance master Marius Petipa added to the original in 1881. “A Bengali firework of pointe variations”, de Volkskrant wrote.
