8: METAMORPHOSIS
8: METAMORPHOSIS
Shows
'An impressive dance opera,' de Volkskrant wrote. Dance, music, light art and visual composition effortlessly blend into a total experience that stimulates all the senses.
The ice is melting, the climate is changing, established power relationships are starting to shift. A great uncertainty lies ahead of us. 8: METAMORPHOSIS is a dance performance and a contemporary opera about embracing change.
On 4 July, after the performance, there will be a discussion with Nicole Beutler, moderated by Maarten Bos in the Pleinfoyer.

A hopeful and threatening middle ground, where change is possible
Eight men - dancers, singers and a drummer - create an incantatory ritual for the new era. Inspired by the mind-bending art of M.C. Escher, Ovid's Metamorphoses, and Henry Purcell's The Cold Song, 8: METAMORPHOSIS takes you into the twilight zone. A hopeful and threatening middle ground, where change is possible. But how radical should that change be? Is destruction necessary before we learn to live together in a new way?
-|- 'A hallucinatory and uncompromising performance in which dance and opera form an image-rich unity.' Jury nomination Zwaan for most impressive dance production 2020
'A crazy energy breaks loose from the fanatical percussion. Those who want to change must dare to break, those who want to distort must thaw structures. Impressive is the descending grid of light, which spreads over the dancers like a revived Escher work and keeps them prisoner.' - de Volkskrant ★★★★★
Nicole Beutler
Before Beutler trained in choreography at the School for New Dance Development, she studied at the art academies of Munich and Münster. She knows the power of the image. With equal precision, she paints with bodies on the dance floor. Her performances are multimedia, philosophical, poetic, and always with subtle humour. Visual snapshots of our own era, that is how you could describe her work. After 5: Echo, Les Sylphides and 7: TRIPLE MOON, Beutler is now becoming a regular guest at Julidans. She is also one of the initiators of WE LIVE HERE, the Julidans Summer Academy for dance professionals. Its next edition will take place at Julidans 2022.
