De Correspondent met Tim 'S Jongers: Armoede uitgelegd aan mensen met geld
Tim 'S Jongers created a crash course in poverty in the form of a book, intended for people with money, because he discovered that many common perceptions of poverty are wrong. Now he is also bringing this crash course to the theater, convinced that poverty reduction is only possible when people learn to see things differently.

Armoede uitgelegd aan mensen met geld
In a country ruled by affluent, educated people, poverty is viewed in a limited and sometimes even harmful way.
Poverty is your own fault.
Poverty is nothing more than a lack of money.
Poverty leads to stupid and unhealthy choices.
Tim 'S Jongers himself grew up in poverty. He lived in several hovels in Belgium and in a dislocated family, living in great financial uncertainty. He eventually went to college, climbed the social ladder in the Netherlands and researched poverty. Now he makes policy proposals to combat it.

In this theater lecture, Tim 'S Jongers takes the audience through the many misconceptions about poverty, of which there are more than people think. For example, he highlights how people with money often look down on Dutch people in debt, especially when they simultaneously have a flat-screen TV in their living room. The only way we can fight poverty is if they learn to look differently.
This theater lecture is a co-production of De Correspondent and Via Rudolphi.
