Alex, a successful photographer, lives with his wife and young daughter in the centre of London. They pay regular visits to his wife’s father on the south coast of France. Although they live in totally different worlds, Alex has a close relationship with his father-in-law. They talk about beer, photography and God. But then something irreversible happens. Sea Wall is an oppressive monologue written by Simon Stephens. Emmanuel Ohene Boafo - nominated for the Louis d'Or for this role - will perform the monologue in English.
Jury report - official jury selection 2021
In Sea Wall, actor Emmanuel Ohene Boafo of Het Nationale Theater makes an unfathomable sadness understandable. He plays a man who loses his daughter through a cruel twist of fate, and on the debris of his pain and loss searches out loud for a new grip. A courageous, almost impossible attempt that pierces the very marrow of the soul. Sea Wall inflicts deep wounds but keeps finding hints of hope and love.
