Shows
Actor group Wunderbaum, together with writer Annelies Verbeke, will investigate pupils' social media use in secondary schools. Reluctantly - because we don't want to appear old - but with the thought that it is high time to make a performance about our screen time. Ever since the iPhone made its massive glorious entry into our country in 2008, we have been 'hooked'. Our behaviour changed and generational gaps revealed themselves.

Wunderbaum plays live (online it's a mess)
As parents and educators, we are mildly to heavily concerned. We hear stories of children adopting different identities in 20 Whatsapp groups, having a secret second phone, participating in anorexia challenges on the dark web and preferring to celebrate New Year with their friends online in World of Warcraft. Or is this all exaggerated and should we stick to the love-attention-and-trust mantra that is so characteristic of our parent’s generation?
-|-
And what right do we really have when we regularly find ourselves scrolling at a screen ourselves as our child talks to us? Or when we surf on the web from the news to Funda late at night between series?
Wunderbaum plays live (online it's a mess) is a performance that does not shy away from one of the most pressing questions of this century: How much of our time do we want to spend online?
Artist Talk
A look behind the scenes and conversation with the makers form an interesting contribution to your visit of a performance. Therefore, ITA Academy continues the series of Artist Talks: in-depth discussions with inspiring makers about their work and working methods, motives, sources of inspiration and fascinations. Register for free entry.
The upcoming Artist Talk takes place on Friday 26 January. After the performance, moderator Carolien Borgers will talk to theatre group WUNDERBAUM.
IN THE PRESS
NRC
"Loving portrait of Gen Z in razor-sharp and surprising comedy."
de Volkskrant
"Hilarious satire about online communication."
Theaterkrant (Critic's Choice)
"In recognisable, witty dialogue, it outlines a zeitgeist where certain basic values seem to have been derailed. Wunderbaum's latest performance exposes many pain points, which is as funny as it is disconcerting."
8weekly
"A contemporary performance with a sharp social imperative: screen time."
