Lieve Stad,: The mental state of the city
During the seventh edition of festival Lieve Stad,, from 20 to 30 March, Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and Meervaart bring together exceptional creators who explore the mental state of the city from various perspectives. The festival - a celebration of theatre, art and dialogue - reflects the dynamics of the metropolitan environment, in which the city itself is a source of inspiration.
The mental state of the city
The harsh realities and complex themes of our time have an effect on our mental state: we take hits, react and adapt. In the upcoming edition of Lieve Stad,, as an antidote, we present performances in which creators, for whom themes such as decolonisation, polyphony and multilingualism are self-evident, make us look at our mental state with new eyes.
Yassine Boussaid, director of Meervaart: "With Lieve Stad,, we enrich the city with stimulating, inspiring and loving productions. Productions that take place in two important cultural hubs and are complemented with in-depth context programming. We not only celebrate successes during this festival, but dare to confront the city with what is going on. With colourful programmes and spirited themes. You can see Lieve Stad, as our city's barometer for creators and audiences!"

Lieve Stad, is all about encounters, both with each other and with the different perspectives our city has to offer. Thus, the festival offers space for friction, confrontation and exciting encounters, as well as healing and relaxation.
About Lieve Stad,
Amsterdam is a city of many faces. Lieve Stad, – a celebration of theatre, art, and dialogue – reflects the dynamics of that metropolitan environment, in which the city itself is a source of inspiration. This festival, a collaboration between ITA and Meervaart, is about bringing people together, in the city, in the theatre, in society. How do we live together and what stories do all individuals and groups carry with them?
