Moord met een grote M is a hilarious and sharp satire about the murder plot against Julius Caesar. In 48 BC. he was appointed dictator by the senate, but it was feared that he would take too much power. His murder is seen as a murder of the dictatorship, stabbed by a democracy that feels threatened. But after his death, the Roman Empire falls into chaos and civil war.
-|-The performance examines the complexity of power relations and the field of tension between law and justice, and asks whether Caesar hadn't asked for it just a little… A kind of Borgen, but funnier and bloodier. A ravishing over-the-top whodunit in an ancient Roman setting about the death or renaissance of democracy. A parable for our own time and the state of our own politics.
With this premiere, ITA supports the move by de Spelersfederatie to the big(ger) stage.
DE SPELERSFEDERATIE
De Spelersfederatie is a new theatre company. It focuses on productions, especially comedy, in which the actors are decisive. In the past, it was much more normal for actors to participate. A group of actors from and around De Theatertroep came up with a special initiative: the establishment of a new permanent company of actors. They call themselves De Spelersfederatie and they focus on comedy.
"ITA is not only there for the makers of today, but also those of the future," says Wouter van Ransbeek, director of the ITA. "We therefore do not only open our stages to established makers, but also want to give the talents of the future a push in their first steps in the large theatre. Just as in the past with collectives such as De Warme Winkel and Wunderbaum, we want to stimulate The Players Federation by programming their first performances and sharing our expertise and spaces with them. By doing so, we hope to contribute to a new sound within the large theatres."
