La Mer
After Anima Obscura, Nanine Linning returns with a new large-scale total experience about the ocean. La Mer takes Debussy’s iconic music as its starting point and contrasts his romantic image of the sea with today’s reality: pollution, rising sea levels and an ecosystem under pressure.

The sea as a mirror of our time
In La Mer, Nanine Linning and her international artistic team explore the tension between beauty and decay. With 25 dancers, music by Claude Debussy and Yannis Kyriakides, and a powerful visual world, the performance not only depicts the ocean but also questions it.
Debussy’s La Mer and Sirènes
form the musical foundation, complemented by new compositions by Kyriakides for soprano Barbara Hannigan and deep-sea sound recordings. Beneath it all, we hear a world that is not silent, but full of life and movement.-|-
The scenography by Heleen Blanken and the sustainable haute couture by Yuima Nakazato build a world in constant transformation. Dance, image and sound merge into a total experience in which the sea both seduces and warns.
