Disappearance
DISAPPEARANCE invites you to disappear and yet be there. An ode to the in-between space where everything disappears and appears, where bodies long for a voice and voices long for a body. In this multidisciplinary performance, dance, music, projections, light and children's voices circle through the space like radio waves.

DISAPPEARANCE is the second part of the diptych APPEARANCE - DISAPPEARANCE. In the first part, APPEARANCE, 12 children sing about their own death. By means of Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, the children's choir reckons with the adult world and lets their voices live on in the ether. There they are picked up by the 12 dancers.
The entire ICK-Ensemble and the junior Company ICK-Next confront the sound palette of sound artists who cut pop songs by David Bowie, Björk and Radiohead, among others, with the radio, children's voices and electronic music. -|-Intriguing projections make what has disappeared tangible: a movement that has gone by, a memory that cannot be grasped, a helping hand.
Choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten are intrigued by the interchangeability of presence and absence and especially by the persistent cadence in which the two are chasing each other. The world is in a permanent state of change. We feel trapped in a space in between. DISAPPEARANCE is an almost sacred experience that starts in the dark and via a rich colour palette ends in heavenly white light. There is hope.

DANCE WORKSHOP DOUBLE SKIN/DOUBLE MIND (DS/DM)
Experience the power of your own intuition by taking part in the dance workshop Double Skin/Double Mind (DS/DM) on Monday March 7. This dance method by choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten was developed for both amateurs and professionals and is at the basis of every performance by ICK Dans Amsterdam, including Disappearance.
Specially for the Dutch premiere of Disappearance in Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, former ICK dancer Helena Volkov will give a workshop in the Plein Foyer. During the DS/DM you will discover your sensitivity to the impulses and creativity that come from your body. In one hour you will go through several exercises that flow into each other thanks to energetic and stimulating sounds and music.
Double Skin/Double Mind is suitable for everyone regardless of age or level of fitness and is taught in English. It is advisable not to wear tight clothing.
