Linda Hayford: Abimes
After making a strong impression last year with AlShe/Me, a duet performed with her brother, Linda Hayford returns with Abîmes, her first group creation. Linda Hayford: Abimes
Known as a leading figure in Popping, Linda brings her distinctive choreographic voice to the stage. In Abîmes, seven performers inhabit a parallel universe, moving as a single, interdependent organism. Through “Shifting Pop,” Hayford’s movement language, they explore transformation as a shared way of moving and existing, between control and fluidity, everyday gestures and more otherworldly physical states. The result is a continuous flow of shifting bodies, evoking slow motion and imagery drawn from science fiction, fantasy, and video games.
Working at the intersection of styles and influences, from Popping and funk-based club dances to battle culture, Linda uses this crossover as a starting point. She connects multiple emotional and physical states, centering her work around transformation. Abîmes explores the shifting point between forms and energies, where bodies are in constant flux and identity is never fixed.
