The Square2
With a subtle hint to Dante's La Divina Commedia, the four creators of The Square2 translate the journey from the inferno to paradise to the here and now and the personal challenges of the corona era. Propelled by live music with elements from dance and ambient, the dancers go in search of inner renewed strength and insight.

The stage as a meeting place: that is the starting point of The Square. A new series of full-length performances by up-and-coming talent in which artistic collaboration plays a central role. -|- In this second edition, an international company of young dance makers goes on an adventure with Dutch musician and producer Richard van Kruysdijk. The choreographers each bring their own style and background and together they create an energetic performance that surprises and disrupts.
The choreographers
Former Scapino dancer Antonin Comestaz (France) is enjoying a successful career as a choreographer. With his absurdly comic view of life, he creates playful pieces in which the familiar is no longer what it seems.
Mario Bermudez Gil (Spain) is choreographer and artistic director of the Spanish company Marcat Dance. He has an intensely physical style and draws inspiration from world cultures, rituals and landscapes. -|- We know the versatile maker Ryan Djojokarso (Netherlands) from his piece While the leaves are blowing for TWOOLS. He has his own artistic signature and makes accessible pieces with humour that appeal to a broad and culturally diverse audience.
The basis for The Square2 is laid by the music and video projections of Richard van Kruysdijk. From minimalist to driving, with an arsenal of electronics he makes collages with elements from dance and ambient. Together with the dancers and choreographers, he uses them to build intuitive sound worlds that propel the dance.
