Abke Haring received the Theo d'Or in 2014 for her performance as Hamlet in Hamlet vs Hamlet. The writer and adapter Tom Lanoye approached her because of her boyish quality. “It doesn't bother me, but even as a child I was half a boy, with quite a low voice. What do you call that? There is a special word for it. Androgynous! I feel every inch a woman, but I am androgynous. Apparently that is very fashionable.” In this portrait the photographer Marie-Cecile Thijs has the actor leap and float, which gives the image a certain lightness.
