We believe in artistic exchange
As a large, international theatre organisation we carry a responsibility that reaches beyond our own building or our own productions. We believe in artistic exchange: theatre becomes stronger when makers, companies and venues seek each other out, learn from one another and dare to take risks together. It is from that conviction that we gladly share our knowledge, our resources and our building, and that we actively seek out inspiring collaborations. As a co-producer we commit to makers at an early stage, so that productions come into being that would otherwise not exist. We are also continually looking for collaborations that widen access to theatre.
In Amsterdam
Amsterdam is our home city. We embrace Amsterdam companies such as De Warme Winkel, Orkater and de Toneelmakerij. They can be seen in the Stadsschouwburg every season. Artistically we seek collaboration with RIGHTABOUTNOW INC. and Raymi Sambo Maakt, among others. Together with Pakhuis de Zwijger and Rabobank we produce De Staat van de Stad every year. We are a co-producer of Julidans and we are the festival hub of the Holland Festival and the Nederlands Theater Festival.
Across the country
Our national programming is built on long-standing collaborations with the country's leading theatre and dance companies. Het Nationale Theater (HNT), NITE, Het Zuidelijk Toneel, the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Theater Rotterdam and de Toneelmakerij are all familiar faces in the programming of Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.
Across borders
Internationally we believe in exchange, a plurality of voices and the bringing together of perspectives. As a co-producer we work with leading international houses and festivals, such as Edinburgh International Festival, Teatre Lliure and Shanghai Modern Drama Valley Theatre Festival.
Together with partners who make our artistic ambition possible directly, we are building international work on a lasting basis: with Ammodo as production partner for internationalisation, and with the Philip Loubser Foundation, which connects international directing talent to ITA through the Ibsen Artist in Residence programme and the International Ibsen Fellowship.
